Lists were the habit that stuck
Once participants discovered they could capture and retrieve lists in the app, that capability became one of the few reasons they opened it daily — the exact behavior a household broadcast and always-visible widgets were designed to make even easier to reach.
Participants relied on Lists specifically away from home — adding an item mid-errand so it wouldn't be forgotten by the time they got back.
Some participants kept using a clunkier workaround (like routines) for reminders because it was the way they already knew worked, even after learning a simpler path existed.
The study explicitly recommended promoting Lists and Reminders in more visible areas than the "More" tab — the same friction this case study's widgets and broadcast remove.
