About me

I'm a Senior Product Designer based in the New York City area, working across prototyping, UX, and strategic thinking — today at Amazon.

I bring 12 years of design experience—five years practicing architecture followed by the last seven years designing digital products. Whether mapping out physical spaces or software systems, I anchor my work in structural logic, high craft, and real-world performance.

I use AI-assisted prototyping and coding to explore ideas quickly and get to working software faster. While AI handles the heavy lifting on execution speed, I take full ownership of the product strategy, UX judgment, accessibility, and overall quality.

Outside of work, I spend my time analyzing architecture, experimenting with generative tech, mentoring designers, and gardening.

Perspective

From the Dominican Republic to New York

I travel to keep my design perspective sharp. Stepping into completely different environments forces me to question my own design assumptions and teaches me how to build for users whose daily lives look nothing like mine.

I direct. AI accelerates.

A replay of a real working session: the agent scaffolds a prototype in seconds, then I overrule the calls it cannot responsibly make—financial tone over delight, locale-aware money over a hardcoded '$'. AI expands how many variations I can test and shortens the path to working software, but the overarching strategy, customer judgment, accessibility, and final quality remain entirely mine.

What partners say
Charlie's standout superpower is his relentless focus on high standards and ownership. On the UFO Priceblock launches, he'd challenge tech and product teams when decisions optimized for speed at the expense of the customer experience — always respectfully, always backed by data and rationale.

Beyond my own work

Leading Teams

Shipping products is only half the job. True senior leadership is about building up the people around you. Here is how I invest in my teams outside of core design work.

How I work

My Core Principles

Four foundational principles I default to across every project, backed by measurable product outcomes.

01

Design systems mentorship

Ongoing guidance for a teammate on Rio and our other component libraries — helping him lean on existing systems and patterns instead of rebuilding from scratch.

02

Leveling up a designer to L5

Ran a documentation gap analysis on a partner's Figma files, then coached component-development practices, file structure, and tech-team communication until her work reached L5 standards — positioning her for promotion.

03

Career coaching

Talked through long-term career goals with a teammate and helped map concrete next steps for skill development and positioning for growth.

04

Onboarding and transition systems

Built transition documentation for new team members covering product context, decision history, stakeholder maps, system conventions, open risks, and ways of working—then paired it with weekly buddy sessions so organizational knowledge transferred as an operating system, not a one-time handoff.

Outside of work: a recurring panelist at BrainStation's "Starting and Building a Career in UX Design," and I give portfolio feedback to designers who reach out on LinkedIn.

What it adds up to

One designer, five disciplines, no seams

01

Systems thinking

Patterns and principles built once, reused everywhere — a shared language that scales.

2 design systems
02

Motion craft

Micro-animation that dramatizes the real feature, not decoration — every case-study hero proves it.

5 case studies animated
03

Craft

Pixel-level attention to type, spacing, and detail — the gap between shipped and shippable.

37+ features shipped
04

AI-directed speed

I direct AI agents to move fast, then apply the judgment they can't — taste, tone, and the calls that matter.

Directed daily
05

Business impact

Design decisions tied to real business outcomes — measured and repeated across products.
